What is the GetSuave Codex?

The GetSuave Codex is the collected writing of /u/Champagnehouse, who founded the r/GetSuave subreddit in 2015. It reads like a field manual for men: confidence, charisma, dating, style, hosting, and the books behind all of it. The archived pieces date from March 2015 to April 2016.

The subreddit has since closed. One of its original maintainers keeps a backup of the most important posts at getsuave.info, and that archive is where to read his words as he wrote them.

SuaveWay grew out of it. Our Codex, The Suave Way, rebuilds his ideas as new guides in our own words. We don't reprint his posts. Every guide that draws on one says so at the end, with a link to the original.

  • 76original pieces
  • 13original sections
  • 33SuaveWay guides built on them
  • 16left out, with the reason

Why it was worth rebuilding

Most advice for men is vague. The Codex wasn't. Five habits made it useful, and we built SuaveWay's format around them:

  1. The whole map first. His best pieces listed every principle in one line, then went deep on each.
  2. Named ideas. A principle with a name is one you remember on a Friday night.
  3. The exact words. Not "introduce yourself", but the sentence to say.
  4. Your doubt, answered. He raised the reader's objection out loud, then dealt with it.
  5. The caveat. After strong advice, he said when not to follow it.

What we changed

A decade is a long time. Some of the advice aged well, and some of it didn't. Here is how The Suave Way handles the parts that didn't:

  • Character over spending. The old picture of an attractive life leaned on jets and fast cars. Ours is competence, character and a full social life.
  • Evidence over wishful thinking. The confidence series treated visualization and affirmation as ways to attract what you want. We keep the practice and back it with research. Seevisualization techniques for confidence andaffirmations for men.
  • People, not tests. We dropped the pickup-era framing. We kept what was true under it: composure, standards, and not needing anyone's approval.
  • Texting for now. Phone etiquette from 2015 is out of date. The texting guides are written for dating apps and group chats.
  • Role models that last. Film heroes still appear, paired with men from history and real life.
  • More to use. Each guide adds sources you can check, scripts for real situations, and a "When not to" section.

Every piece, and where it went

Where to start

If you read one guide, make it How to Be Suave, the pillar of the series. It pulls the core of the Codex into one plan. Then work throughThe Suave Way chapter by chapter, or take thecharisma quiz to see where to begin.
